Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What time can media come to the Zoo to cover a story / event?
A: For all media stories, a media alert will be sent with specific times and gate information to all local media outlets. If a reporter would like to cover a specific topic, requests must go through the Public Relations Coordinator. Please contact the office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, to schedule an appointment. When looking to interview keepers and/or staff members, or to get photos of animals, please keep in mind that most employees work from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Special arrangements for weekends and before/after hours can be made.
Q: How can I get in touch with a Zoo employee for a story / comment?
A: All members if the media must contact the Public Relations Coordinator first; he/she will make sure the appropriate party is contacted and available for assistance.
Q: Can we do live shots at the Zoo?
A: Definitely! The Zoo is a great place to get live-action shots to start a broadcast or to enhance a newscast. Please keep in mind that since we are working with live animals and around keeper schedules, in most cases, at least two (2) days of notice are required.
Q: Is the Zoo conducive to radio?
A: Yes! The Zoo has a number of locations within its grounds that are perfect for live remotes. Some staff members are also available for phone interviews or to bring animals with them to your studio!
