Eco-Challenge Date: April 17, 2010 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. We all know the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. Now find out how our friends in the animal world do just that everyday! From owls reusing nesting sites, to millipedes in the rainforest recycling nutrients back into soil, we will discover examples of recycling animals throughout the zoo. Through hands-on activities we will challenge ourselves to be more like the animals we encounter by finding unique ways to be ‘green’, like vermiculturing (worm-composting), eating a no-waste lunch at school, or using a rain catcher at home!
Zoo’s Clues Date: September 4, 2010 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Can you find animals at the zoo that are colorful, scaly, smooth, spiny, small, or tall? Challenge your animal knowledge as we use our senses and explore clues to learn more about the animals around us. We will investigate scat and bones, solve animal riddles, and participate in a scavenger hunt that will take us all around the zoo!
Beast Feast Date: November 20, 2010 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. How would you prepare a Thanksgiving Feast for a rhino or a gorilla? Find out in this family workshop that begins with a light continental breakfast (for you)! We will then explore zoo animal diet and nutrition, observe zoo animals enjoying their breakfast, and even go behind-the-scenes to explore the diet kitchen.
