Program Description

Each workshop features a wide variety of activities involving behind-the-scenes opportunities, hands-on activities, and live animal contact.

Behind the Scenes 
Dates:  March 24th, 2018

            June 24th, 2018

            October 6th, 2018

Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Ages: Families with children ages 6 and up
This workshop is an exciting experience that gives you and your family a once-in-a-lifetime chance to go behind closed doors at the Buffalo Zoo! Meet zookeepers as we visit three exhibit areas to learn the daily routine of preparing animal diets, observing behavior, training and more.

Due to the unpredictability of animals, tour experiences may vary

Please be aware that we will be visiting confined zookeeper work areas with close proximity to wild animals. All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult. All participants must abide by staff instructions at all times. If you require reasonable accommodation as a result of a disability or other reasons, please call 995-6128 for assistance.

 

Animal Training

Date: April 21st, 2018

Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Ages: Families with children ages 6 and up

Animals are smarter than you think. Join us as we learn about animal behaviors, see how and why our keepers train the animals, and even become a trainer for one of our animal friends!

 

Roaring with the Big Cats

Date: August 12th, 2018

Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Ages: Families with children ages 6 and up

Big cats are one of the most popular “favorite animals” at the Zoo, but what makes them so special? In this workshop, we will learn about why big cats are top predators, examine the differences in cats all over the world, delve into what makes a “big cat” different from other cats, and get a closer look at some of our larger cats at the zoo.

 

The Seedy Side of Nature

Date: November 10th, 2018

Time: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Ages: Adults (ages 18+) only

Nature has a lot of secrets, and we want to share them with you. In this workshop, we will enjoy light hors d’oeuvres while we have fun exploring the “creeps”, “liars”, and “manipulators” in the animal kingdom, the hidden relationship drama with our Zoo animals, and show you the seedy side of many of your favorite species.
